Singapore in Three Days Without Wasting Any of Them
18 August 2026 · TravelJar
Singapore rewards planning more than most destinations, because almost everything is reachable and the temptation is to try for all of it.
Three days is enough for a proper visit. Here is where they go.
The transport is the unlock
The MRT is fast, clean, air-conditioned and goes almost everywhere you want. Using it rather than taxis is the single biggest difference between a comfortable Singapore trip and an expensive one.
It also means you do not need to base yourself centrally. Staying a few stops out is considerably cheaper and costs you very little time.
Where the days go
One day for the Marina Bay area — the waterfront, Gardens by the Bay, and the light show after dark. One for the neighbourhoods: Chinatown, Little India and Kampong Glam sit close together and give you the city's actual texture.
The third is the flexible one. Sentosa if you are travelling with family or want the beach-and-attractions day, the zoo if wildlife appeals, or the botanic gardens and the shophouse districts if you would rather walk.
- Hawker centres are the food story — not the restaurants
- Gardens by the Bay is better after dark
- Sentosa is a full day, not an afternoon
On the cost
Singapore is genuinely expensive for accommodation and alcohol, and genuinely cheap for food if you eat where locals eat. Hawker centres are regulated, hygienic and excellent, and they are what keeps a Singapore trip affordable.
