Krabi or Phuket: Which Andaman Base Suits You

Both sit on Thailand's Andaman coast, both give access to the same spectacular island scenery, and they attract quite different travellers.
The choice comes down to convenience against setting.
Phuket is the easier arrival
Phuket has the international airport, the widest range of hotels, and the most developed everything — including nightlife, which is concentrated and loud in specific areas and absent in others.
It is the practical choice for a short trip, for families wanting facilities, and for anyone who does not want to organise much.
Krabi is the better-looking one
Krabi province, and Railay in particular, has the limestone cliffs rising straight out of the sea that define the region's image. Railay is reachable only by boat, which keeps it quieter.
It is less convenient and considerably more scenic. Ao Nang is the practical base, with Railay a short longtail ride away.
