Flying as a Group: The Airport Parts Nobody Explains
8 August 2026 · TravelJar
Travelling as a group makes most of the airport easier and one or two parts slower. Knowing which is which reduces the stress considerably.
The main adjustment is timing.
Everything takes longer, so leave earlier
Group check-in is efficient once it starts and slow to start, because it waits for everyone. Arriving at the stated time rather than your own preferred time is the single most useful thing an individual traveller can do for a group.
Immigration is processed individually regardless of group size, so budget for that separately.
- Arrive at the group's stated time, not your usual buffer
- Keep passport, visa copy and itinerary in hand luggage
- Check the baggage allowance for your specific ticket, not the airline's general policy
- Carry a day's medication in hand luggage, never in checked bags
What to keep on you
Documents, medication, chargers and one change of clothes belong in hand luggage. Delayed baggage is a minor inconvenience with those and a genuine problem without them.
Keep a copy of the group's contact details somewhere that does not depend on your phone having battery.
