Dubai: When to Go Matters More Than What You Do
17 August 2026 · TravelJar
Dubai is one of the few destinations where the calendar decides the quality of the trip more than anything on the itinerary.
The city's outdoor attractions — the desert, the beaches, the marina walks, the old souks — are the good parts, and they are only comfortable for part of the year.
The seasons, plainly
The cooler months, roughly from late autumn through early spring, are when Dubai works. Daytime temperatures are pleasant, evenings are genuinely nice, and everything outdoors is enjoyable rather than endured.
High summer is severe. It is not simply hot — it is hot in a way that pushes the whole trip indoors, into malls and air-conditioned attractions. Prices drop for a reason.
- Cooler months: the desert, beaches and outdoor dining all work
- Summer: cheaper, but effectively an indoor holiday
- Shoulder months can go either way — check the forecast, not the average
Ramadan is worth planning around
During Ramadan, daytime eating and drinking in public is restricted, some venues adjust their hours, and the rhythm of the city shifts toward the evening.
It is not a reason to avoid Dubai — many travellers find the evenings particularly special — but it is a reason to know in advance rather than discover on arrival. The dates move each year.
What is actually worth the day
The desert safari is the thing most travellers remember, and it only works in the cooler months. Old Dubai — the creek, the gold and spice souks, the abra crossing — gives you the half of the city that predates the skyline, and costs almost nothing.
The observation decks and large malls are reliable, and they are also where everyone goes. Book the high-demand ones ahead rather than queueing.
Common questions
How many days is enough for Dubai?
Four to five nights covers the city comfortably, including a desert day and time in the old town. Longer works if you are adding Abu Dhabi.
Do Indian passport holders need a visa for Dubai?
Yes, a visa is required, and there are several categories depending on your circumstances — including provisions for holders of certain other valid visas. We confirm the current requirements when you book.
