The Best Time to Visit Bali, Honestly
6 August 2026 · TravelJar
Bali runs on two seasons rather than four, and the difference between them is less absolute than most guides suggest.
The shoulder months are where the value sits.
Dry versus wet
The dry season brings the most reliable weather and, unsurprisingly, the most people and the highest prices. It is the safest choice if your dates are fixed and the weather has to cooperate.
The wet season is not continuous rain. It typically means heavy downpours that pass, often in the afternoon, rather than washed-out days. Everything is greener, prices soften and the island is noticeably less crowded.
- Dry season — reliable weather, peak crowds and prices
- Wet season — passing downpours, green landscape, better value
- Shoulder months — usually the best compromise
What the season actually affects
Boat crossings to Nusa Penida are the most weather-sensitive part of a Bali trip, and rough seas can cancel them. If Penida matters to you, build a spare day into the itinerary.
Nyepi, the Balinese day of silence, shuts the island down completely for a day, including the airport. It is a remarkable thing to witness and a serious problem to be unaware of, so check the date if travelling in that period.
